Clanage Road to Greville Smyth Park and the Create Centre

I think that most residents welcome the new foot and cycle path running from Clanage Road to Greville Smyth Park. Below are some photos mostly taken in June 2010 of the new path.

In most places its 3m (just under 10') wide, which is wide enough for both pedestrians and cyclists.

The new path starts on Clanage Road and runs between the Bedminster Cricket Club (BCC) grounds and the last house on Clanage Road.

Cycle Route 33 - Festival Way Signs

Signposting added later for Cycle Route 33 the Festival Way, Ashton Court to Bristol CIty Centre.

Looking back to the cricket ground entrance

Above, looking back along the Stone Yard road, where the path briefly shares the narrow roadway to the stonemasons Rowland Stone, crossing the railway line in the photo below.

Railway Bridge before the Stone Yard

The path continues between the stone masons stoneyard on the right and the White City allotments on the left.
The Stone Yard

Its about 150m with security fences on both sides from here but the path opens up after that beside the old railway station, just before entering Greville Smyth Park.

With one of the old bonded (duty free) red brick warehouses, peaking over the trees.

Raised section of Brunel Way, A370

Leaving the new path you enter Greville Smyth park, with the raised section of Brunel Way (the A370) shown here.

Mid tide on the River Avon

Walk beside or beneath Brunel Way (pleasantly cool on this hot June day) until you get the above view of the River Avon. Best at high tide, although the mud and gulls at low tides have a certain appeal too.

Tree lined riverside walk
You can cross the river on the busy Brunel Way (Avon Bridge) but walking up stream (away from the suspension bridge) you walk beneath a line of river side trees.

Rusty Ashton Avenue Bridge

Reaching Ashton Avenue Bridge. Built in 1904 I think, once a double decker with road and rail levels and a large controlling cabin above. It did swing to let large boats pass, now a rather rusty foot and cycle path.

The Create Centre and Ecohome

Cross Ashton Bridge and go left, to the old bonded red brick warehouse glimpsed before. The Create Centre & the Ecohome above and the Bristol Record Office on the far side of this building.
